one for the furries
I feel a bit guilty making fun of this chair… It is the Banquete Chair by Fernando and Humberto Campana of Brazil, and the fact it’s carried by Moss, it is probably a well-respected design by the industry. Luckily, I’m not in that industry (furniture industrial design).
I can only think of one thing when I see this chair - the Furries. My God, they would give their first born plushie for this chair.
What? Who? Heh? The Furries?
In my very simple definition - Furry Fandom is a subculture consisting of like-minded people who are into “plushie things” (yes, as in stuffed animal toys). They carry at least one around with them always, has a back-up hidden in a backpack or car, cohabitant with hundreds in their home, and sometimes, they dress themselves up as plushies.
No, no. Your daughter is not a Furry. It’s normal to like cute, little cuddly animal dolls when you are six. It’s another when you are 36. Or 46.
I actually do know a few Furries (don’t ask). They are quite harmless. As a matter of fact, they’re very sweet and mostly shy. They simply enjoy carrying their plushies everywhere. Hey, we all have our issues.
However, it doesn’t mean I would not be spooked out of my mind if I somehow find myself at one of these Furry Conventions.

Like I said, spooky.
Believe it or not, there is a good side to this Furry story. There exists some cool version of this subculture. One I like, in particular, is the Japanese cultural phenomenon Cosplay. They’re not as much into carrying fluffy animals around.
Instead, they enjoy dressing up like ass-kicking anime characters. There are a few stray strange Spiderman types, but in general, they are a bit more elaborate than your average Furry Fandom.
Some of us like to use this opportunity to doll up, or should I say, be downright sexy. I say this is as good an excuse as any to dress up like a sex kitten. Here is one Filipina’s interpretation of Cosplay. Nice.

Now to my favorite discovery, and somehow it’s related to Furry Fandom. Not sure how I got here, but I’m giving two thumbs up to the Gothic Lolitas.
