imagini

Imagini.net is a visually rich new social network which uses visual graphics to evaluate “your type” and matches you up with other users who are “like you.” While I think it is an interesting concept, I also find it somewhat limiting. The test corners me into a “type” via 12 images per category… I don’t really know how it would be possible to accurately define (or even come close to defining) the hundreds of millions personalities online. Maybe I’m taking this a little too seriously.

I did enjoy the registration process and seeing the results. I’m not quite sure what to do with it, except send it off to someone… The social aspect from it is still a mystery to me. Here is an example of what “I’m all about.” (Oh come on, it describes me as High Brow! Really?) (Okay, so it did get a few things right.)

The site offers a nifty little widget if you want to announce to the world what you’re about (unfortunately, it does not work on my blog). Your vices, your view of true love, what you think is gross, etc.  It can be funny if you trick the test into creating the answers you want.

The site still needs a bit of work. It is flash-based (I swear to you, as much as I love the visual aspects of flash, it is so inflexible.) It may be less flash and more site mapping issues though. For example, there is any easy way to go “back” unless you use your browser tool, page by page. The giftfinder took me to a page, where I spent time filling out the entire questionnaire, only to find out at the last question that it’s for the UK and I am not able to complete it (doh!). You can’t “photostumble” images, which is a handicap for any company interested in free viral marketing. There are more little things I find annoying, and I’ve only used the site four times. Don’t get me wrong, I still think the site is cool and worth a visit. They *are* in BETA, so I should give them a break.
